Reporting Period

This report was created based on data from various internal sources that relate to the FARFETCH marketplace only. Aside from the customer survey data, it is focused on the period 1 January to 31 December 2021.


The data results are taken from the millions of interactions of luxury consumers globally with the FARFETCH marketplace's website, app and services. It includes sales data and user analytics data that takes in global browsing and search behavior on the FARFETCH website and app. Comparative data in this report refers to data for the period 1 January to 31 December 2021 relative to the data for the period 1 January to 31 December 2020, unless stated otherwise.

In April 2022 we sent a survey to a panel of FARFETCH customers in 13 countries around the world, to gain a better understanding of their current attitudes to the subjects covered in the report, including sustainability, pre-owned and circularity within luxury fashion. There were 398 respondents to the survey and their responses are shown in the report.

For the video element of the report, we interviewed representatives from luxury businesses that sell through the FARFETCH marketplace, including multibrand retailers and brands with which FARFETCH has a direct commercial relationship. For the Future chapter, we also spoke to FARFETCH senior team members with relevant specialisms and representatives from some of the companies we partner with to enhance our conscious offering to both consumers and luxury businesses.

In the Luxury Brands section of the report, we leveraged data supplied by Good On You on fashion brands selling on FARFETCH. Good On You is the universally trusted source for sustainability ratings in fashion and partners with FARFETCH to validate our conscious Product Criteria, rate the holistic sustainability performance of brands and much more.

Low energy design and development

The website for Conscious Luxury 22 was designed to offer users a low-energy version. The aim of this is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions created in producing and powering it. For context, a significant proportion of the world's electricity generation is required to power the internet's data centers globally. Alongside renewable electricity-powered hosting, reducing the page weight of the site (removing higher resolution images and animations, and disabling videos) means less electricity is required, which minimises its carbon impact.
